Alcohol and drugs, fears and Suizid with young people: Parents underestimate problems of their children substantial

(openPR) - the legend of the unencumbered, ensure-free childhood and youth is disproved by several scientific studies since longer. In one questioning of scarcely 6,000 pupils and their parents became again clear, what substantial problems a substantial part of the pupils at this age (usually 14-16 years) publish now have and like strongly this tendencies to the alcohol and drug consumption, in addition, favours to self injuries and Suizidversuchen. However the realization that parents underestimate these problems and also the health risk behavior of their children substantial, won from the study, is new thus either not at all notices and denials down or but as “normal” and temporary development plays.

These results originate from the Heidelberger study “life situations and behavior from young people”, a representative questioning from pupils and pupils of the 9. Class stage of general-forming schools in Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar-region. Questioning results in the report, which show, are particularly remarkable that parents underestimate the concerns of their children and problematic behaviors substantial:
• During only one third of asked parents indicates that their child takes at least occasionally alcohol to itself, is this for the children themselves twice as many.
• The same picture shows up for the drug consumption: Only 1% of parents admit that the child takes at least occasionally drugs, with the girls concerned are this however substantially more, to i.e. 8%, with boys even 11%.
• Self injuries (cracks, cuts etc.) are not noticed at all by parents usually.
• Reported problems of the young people such as fears and depressive detunings, tendencies to a social retreat, attention disturbances, social contact problems, aggressive behavior are twice as large (measured on the basis a questionnaire) like appropriate estimates of parents, with boys as with girls.
