It has a surface of 8.445 km ² and (2001) 541,430 inhabitants. The Komitatssitz is Kecskemét, other important cities is Kiskunfélegyháza, Kiskunhalas, Kalocsa and Baja. The Komitat was only formed after 1945 from the Hungarian part of the Batschka and the south part of the large Komitats plague Pilis Solt Kiskun.
